Families and organizations
Your family is the workspace your estate lives in. You can belong to more than one.
A family, called an organization in a few corners of the interface, is the workspace that holds your vaults, your people and your will. You create one during onboarding.
You can end up in more than one: your own, plus any you were invited into as a beneficiary, executor, guardian or asset manager for someone else.
Switching between them
The switcher sits at the bottom of the sidebar. Switching changes everything above it: the vaults, the people, the will and your role. In your own family you are the asset owner; in someone else's you might be a beneficiary, and the dashboard changes to match.
Before you have one
If you have signed up but not created a family, and nobody has invited you into theirs, this is what you see: an invitation to create one, and a note that an invitation may be coming.
The "no active subscription" banner on this screen is expected. Plan status is held per family, so with no family there is no plan to read and it falls back to free. It resolves as soon as you create one.
